I like jjot and used to use it, but over time I felt the whizz bang that made its UI look neat was too distracting for real note taking. So I went ahead and wrote my own application!

http://www.ayenotes.com does something similar for taking notes online, though the take is slightly different. Many online note taking sites like this focus on the presentation of note taking (fonts, format, display) and not on the actual note taking itself such as shorthand to longhand conversion and the ability to locate notes by tags and contexts. This is where AyeNotes really shines. Using AyeNote’s shorthand to longhand conversion, I can prevent typos when I am typing, create templates for certain types of notes, and use simple keystrokes to jot down detailed information which I can then store online and tag, download locally, or even email to my friends. This works really for me at work and for a class I am taking. Check it out.
